Omaha Hi deals four pocket cards and the showdown only uses
two pocket cards and three communal cards (rather then a choice
of combinations).
How to play Omaha Hi
Omaha Hi is similar to Texas Hold 'em, but creates a wider range
of possibilities because nine cards are used.
1. The dealer shuffles a deck of 52 playing cards.
2. The players to the left of the dealer begin by posting the blind
bets.
It is posted by the two players to the left of the dealer. A "small
blind" is placed by the player to the dealer's left. The "big
blind" is placed by the player left of the small blind.
3. Two pocket cards are dealt to each player, with faces down.
4. In the first round of betting, there are 3 options available:
fold, bet, or raise. Only a single bet, and just 3 raises per
player are allowed in this round, and players cannot "check" in
the first round.
5. Now, 3 communal cards (flop) are dealt facing up. For all
players, these cards are active and can be used while combining
the first two pocket cards.
6. Second round of betting happens now with options of checking,
folding, betting, or raising.
7. Fourth communal card or turn is dealt face-up.
8. In the third round of betting, the options are to check,
fold, bet, or raise.
9. Now after the 3 rd round of betting, if there are still a
minimum of two competing players, a fifth and final communal
card, called River, is dealt face-up.
10. Final round of betting follows at this point.
11. In the showdown, all remaining players try to create the
best five-card high hand possible. One can only use two pocket
cards and three communal cards.
12. The best hand wins the pot. If two or more players have
the same winning hand, the pot is split equally between them.
